THAT CANTINA JAM

That Cantina Jam: A Night of Nostalgia, Nonna, and Vinyl Vibes

Toronto’s food scene has no shortage of special moments, but That Cantina Jam offered something uniquely heartfelt. Inspired by the warm memories of Nonna’s basement, this intimate pop-up brought people together over comforting Italian food, classic vinyl records, and the kind of old-school charm that makes you feel right at home. It was a night filled with shared plates, laughter, and nostalgic vibes—celebrating Italian culture in the most soulful way.

A Nonna Basement-Inspired Evening to Remember

Held on November 28, 2024, the evening transported guests to a time when gatherings in Nonna’s basement meant full plates, warm company, and music spinning on vinyl. Set inside Tre Mari Bakery on St. Clair West, the space came alive with the sounds of DJ Paul Lopes’ curated Italian mix—an ode to the past that set the tone for laughter, stories, and shared memories.

Comfort Food, Card Games, and Cantina Vibes

Just like hanging out in Nonna's basement, the menu included: assorted meats and cheeses, giardiniera, and nodini. Guests gathered around the table, sharing bites and conversation in a setting that felt both nostalgic and relaxed. The atmosphere brought back the joy of simpler times—of being surrounded by good food and even better company. As the night went on, friends picked up decks of cards to play traditional Italian games like Briscola, Scala Quaranta, and Scopa.

The DJ and the Memory Lane Mixtape

Beyond the food, live music by DJ Paul Lopes was a key part of the experience that filled the space with an inviting, energetic ambiance. Guests sipped wine, savoured their meals, and enjoyed the rhythm of the night, making an atmosphere that was both vibrant and intimate.

An Exclusive Underground Experience

Part of Cantina Jam’s charm was its relaxed and homy feel. Since it operated as a pop-up, details about each gathering were shared through word-of-mouth and Instagram. Tickets were open, and anyone could come, making the night feel the whole community was welcome.

More than a gathering, Cantina Jam became a shared memory. It reminded everyone how the simplest things—good food, familiar songs, and the joy of being together—can create something truly unforgettable.

We’re grateful to That Nonna Life and Franco Deleo and the whole Tre Mari Bakery family their support in promoting Cantina Jam and fostering a community that celebrates authentic Italian culture in the city.
